Why a GIF stops moving after you share it
A still result often means you shared a screenshot, the destination shows a static preview, or that posting surface does not support GIF animation. Test the saved file before changing settings.
App used in this guide: GIFFF ↗
Before you begin
Choose one short GIF that clearly moves. Using the same test file at each step helps identify whether the problem occurs during saving, attaching or display in the receiving app.
Step by step
- Open the GIF in GIFFF and confirm playback.
- Save it to Photos instead of taking a screenshot.
- Open the saved file and verify that the animation remains.
- Attach that file in the destination and compare its preview with the delivered message.
Check the result
If it animates in Photos but not in the destination, the file itself may be fine. Open the received attachment; some apps animate only after you tap a preview.
Limits and troubleshooting
If the destination requires video or does not support animation in that field, use a supported format or another sharing route. Repeatedly saving the same GIF will not change the destination's capabilities.
