QR code not scanning on iPhone: image or link problem?
First distinguish a code that cannot be decoded from a decoded link that will not load. Camera focus and contrast fix the first problem; website access is a separate issue.
App used in this guide: QR Code Scanner ↗
Before you begin
Clean the lens and use even lighting. Keep the complete code, including its blank border, visible without glare or a fold across its squares.
Step by step
- Move the phone until the code is in focus rather than filling the entire screen.
- For a saved image, import the original through QR Code Scanner's photo picker.
- If a result appears, inspect the text or URL before opening it.
Check the result
If the app shows a URL, decoding has succeeded. A missing page, expired destination or required login must be resolved by the website owner.
If it does not work
For damaged or tiny prints, obtain a fresh higher-resolution code. A scanner cannot reconstruct every missing square or restore a deleted destination. Do not replace a failed trusted link with an unknown advertised one.
