How to scan a paper document to PDF on iPhone

Scanner 1.0 is awaiting App Store review. This guide previews the submitted version; a public download is not available yet.

Scanner turns a paper page into a PDF by detecting its edges and correcting the camera perspective. A clear capture matters more than a strong filter.

Before you begin

Put the paper on a contrasting, flat surface. Spread light across the page and move your hand away from the text. This guide describes the submitted Scanner 1.0 version, which is awaiting App Store review.

Step by step

  1. Open Scanner and choose Scan Document.
  2. Hold the iPhone parallel to the paper and keep all four corners visible.
  3. Check the captured page for missing edges, reflections and small text before saving.
  4. Name the document, open it and use Share to export the PDF.

Check the result

Open the exported file and zoom into the smallest text. Check that the page is upright and that signatures, dates and margins are present. Keep the original paper when you still need it.

Limits and troubleshooting

If edge detection cuts off a pale border, change the background or capture the page again. More contrast cannot restore text that was blurred or outside the camera frame.
