How to turn document photos into a PDF with Scanner

Scanner 1.0 is awaiting App Store review. This guide previews the submitted version; a public download is not available yet.

Existing pictures of documents can become a PDF without photographing the originals again. Importing a photo preserves only the detail already present in that picture.

Before you begin

Choose the full-resolution pictures rather than screenshots of thumbnails or compressed chat previews. If a picture is stored remotely, let the phone download it before starting the import.

Step by step

  1. Open Scanner and choose Import from Photos.
  2. Select the document pictures you want to include and finish the import.
  3. Open the resulting document and use Edit to review page order, rotation and filters.
  4. Rename the document and share it as a PDF.

Check the result

Inspect text and page edges in the exported file. If you need to send just the document, make sure the original photo does not include a desk label, another sheet or personal information around the page.

Limits and troubleshooting

Importing does not recover missing corners or turn an out-of-focus photo into a sharp scan. When the source is poor, taking a new scan usually gives a better result than applying a heavier filter.
