Type on your TV with an iPhone keyboard
An iPhone keyboard can help with searches on compatible TVs, but the active TV app and input field must accept remote text commands.
App used in this guide: TV Remote ↗
Before you begin
Pair TV Remote with your television and first confirm that arrows and OK work. Open a search box on the TV; merely opening the keyboard on the phone is not enough.
Step by step
- Select the TV's text field with the directional controls.
- Open the keyboard feature in the iPhone remote app.
- Send a short test word before entering a longer search, then submit using the controls your TV supports.
Check the result
Check whether the word appears in the intended field without duplicated characters. Some TV apps handle text entry differently from the home-screen search.
If it does not work
If navigation works but typing fails, try another editable field. Use the TV's on-screen keyboard when remote text is unsupported. Never assume passwords or every streaming app accept this input method.
