About the Age Calculator

This age calculator works out exactly how old you are, in completed years plus months and days, on today’s date or on any date you choose (for example a school cut-off date, a sports age group or a retirement date). It also counts down to your next birthday, shows the number of days and weeks you have lived, your Chinese zodiac animal (based on the Lunar New Year) and your star sign, plus fun milestones such as your 10,000th day and the moment you turn 1 billion seconds old.

How to use

  1. Enter your date of birth.
  2. The Age on date is today by default. Change it to see how old you will be (or were) on another date.
  3. Read your age, exact age and the countdown to your next birthday.
  4. Scroll down for milestones like 10,000 days old and your next round birthday.

How age is calculated

Your age is the number of completed years since you were born: it goes up by one on each birthday. The months and days are counted from your last birthday, using calendar months. For example, someone born on December 25, 2000 is 25 years, 9 months and 6 days old on October 1, 2026.

If you were born on February 29, this calculator adds a year on March 1 in common years, as many legal systems do. Many leap-day babies celebrate on February 28 instead.

Boundary dates can shift by a day from year to year, so astrologers may place a birthday on the cusp in the neighbouring sign.

When does the Chinese zodiac year start?

The Chinese zodiac follows the lunar calendar, so the new animal starts at the Lunar New Year (between January 21 and February 20), not on January 1. Someone born on January 15, 2000 was born before the Lunar New Year (February 5, 2000), so they are a Rabbit, not a Dragon. This calculator uses lunar calendar data to take that into account.

FAQ

When exactly do I turn a year older?

On your birthday. If you were born on February 29, this calculator adds a year on March 1 in common years.

How many days have I been alive?

The “Days lived” box shows the number of days from your date of birth to today (or the date you chose). The day you were born counts as day 0.

Why is my Chinese zodiac animal different from the one for my birth year?

If you were born in January or early February, before that year’s Lunar New Year, you belong to the previous year’s animal.

Is my date of birth stored?

Only in this browser, so it is there next time. It is never sent to a server.
