How to calculate an expense before converting its currency

Currency's amount input accepts arithmetic expressions, allowing you to calculate a subtotal before converting it. Keep every number in the expression in the same source currency.

Before you begin

Write down which prices are being added and whether any quantity or discount belongs in the total. Mixing a local price with a home-currency amount inside one expression produces a misleading result.

Step by step

  1. Tap the source-currency row in Convert.
  2. Use the amount input's addition, subtraction, multiplication or division controls.
  3. Review the calculated amount before confirming it.
  4. Read the destination-currency result and keep the source subtotal alongside it.

Check the result

For a quantity calculation, check the number of units and the per-unit price separately. If a result looks unexpected, calculate a simpler expression first rather than assuming the exchange rate is wrong.

Limits and troubleshooting

The calculator does not know which taxes, service charges or payment fees apply to your purchase. Include known amounts deliberately, and compare the result with the merchant's final total before using it as a spending estimate.
