What Scanner exports to Word, Excel, PowerPoint and text

Scanner 1.0 is awaiting App Store review. This guide previews the submitted version; a public download is not available yet.

Scanner can export DOCX, XLSX, PPTX and TXT files. Word, Excel and PowerPoint exports contain page images; TXT contains recognized text rather than the page layout.

Before you begin

Choose the format based on your next task. Use PDF to preserve a scanned document, an office format to carry the page images into another app, or TXT when you need text you can copy and edit.

Step by step

  1. Open a saved document in Scanner.
  2. Open More, choose Convert and select the required format.
  3. Wait for conversion and find the result in the Files tab.
  4. Share the file and open it in the destination app to check the result.

Check the result

In an Excel export, a photographed table is an image, not automatically reconstructed spreadsheet cells. A Word export likewise does not turn every printed sentence into editable paragraphs.

Limits and troubleshooting

If you need editable wording, use OCR and review the TXT result. If you need a working spreadsheet, check and enter the values into cells yourself; do not assume a successful XLSX export means formulas or tables were recovered.
