How to lock Scanner with Face ID or a passcode

Scanner 1.0 is awaiting App Store review. This guide previews the submitted version; a public download is not available yet.

Scanner's App Lock covers the document library until you authenticate when the app opens or returns from the background. Available authentication depends on your device.

Before you begin

Set up device authentication first. App Lock is an eligible subscription feature; Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode may be offered according to the phone and its settings.

Step by step

  1. Open Scanner Settings and find App Lock.
  2. Turn on the lock and complete the requested authentication.
  3. Leave the app, then return to confirm that the document screen stays covered.
  4. Unlock and check that you can still open and export a test document.

Check the result

App Lock controls access inside Scanner. A PDF you previously emailed, saved to Files or shared with another app is a separate copy and is not locked by this setting.

Limits and troubleshooting

Do not delete the app as a first troubleshooting step if authentication fails; that can remove local documents. Check the device's authentication setup and keep an exported copy of important documents in a location appropriate to their sensitivity.
