How to estimate a travel budget in another currency

Currency can put a travel budget into a common currency so you can compare daily costs. It is a conversion tool; keep the actual list of expenses in a note or budgeting app.

Before you begin

Separate accommodation, transport, meals and discretionary spending. Keep each subtotal in its original currency, and distinguish known bookings from rough estimates before converting them.

Step by step

  1. Add your home and destination currencies in Currency.
  2. Enter each local-currency subtotal and record the converted estimate.
  3. Use the calculator for quantities such as several nights or repeated fares.
  4. Date your estimates and update them when the trip or rates change.

Check the result

Keep enough detail to explain a total later: source amount, currency, quantity and date. Avoid adding both a local amount and its converted equivalent into the same budget.

Limits and troubleshooting

The app does not forecast future exchange rates or automatically know card fees and taxes. Treat the result as a planning estimate and use the actual booking and payment quotes when confirming what a trip will cost.
