Why your card charge can differ from a currency converter
A converter provides a reference amount, while your card issuer or exchange provider determines the transaction's final pricing. Different rates, timing and fees can explain a mismatch.
App used in this guide: Currency ↗
Before you begin
Keep the original receipt and note its currency. Compare the final posted transaction rather than assuming that a temporary authorization is the settled amount you will pay.
Step by step
- Enter the receipt's original amount in Currency using the correct source currency.
- Note the app's rate-update information and converted estimate.
- Check the payment provider's transaction details for its rate and separate charges.
- Compare like-for-like totals, including any fees that are shown separately.
Check the result
If the merchant charged in your home currency, you may be comparing a merchant-converted amount with a reference conversion of the local price. Read the receipt before trying to reconcile the two.
Limits and troubleshooting
Currency does not replace the issuer's statement or guarantee a particular exchange rate. For an unexplained charge, use the issuer's published transaction details or support process; changing the app's refresh frequency will not alter a completed payment.
