Connect an iPhone remote app to an LG webOS TV

An LG webOS TV can accept remote commands over your home network. With SpaceNode TV Remote, select the TV, complete the on-screen pairing request, and test the controls. A Wi-Fi connection alone does not guarantee that every LG model supports every feature.

Check your LG TV first

This guide is for compatible LG smart TVs running webOS. Older LG platforms and non-smart televisions are different. Check your model’s settings or manual rather than relying on the LG name alone.

Turn the TV on, connect it to your home network, and keep its physical remote nearby for setup. Your iPhone must be able to communicate with it locally; being connected to the same internet provider is not enough if a guest network isolates devices.

Pair the app

  1. Open TV Remote · Universal Control on your iPhone.
  2. Allow Local Network access so the app can discover your TV.
  3. Choose the LG TV on the connection screen.
  4. Follow the pairing instructions shown by the TV and app. If a PIN appears on the TV, enter it in the app. Do not reuse a PIN from an earlier attempt.
  5. After connecting, test the directional pad, OK, Home and volume.

Keep the app open while pairing. If a request expires, return to the device list and reconnect to start a fresh attempt.

Connected, but one control does not work?

Test basic navigation before advanced features. Text entry depends on what is focused on the TV, and some TV apps do not accept the same input methods. A connected status does not mean every on-screen control is supported by the current TV app.

Power-on from standby also depends on the television’s network standby settings. A phone cannot wake a television that is unplugged or no longer reachable on the network.

When to use another option

The manufacturer’s LG ThinQ app may suit users who only need to control supported LG devices. SpaceNode TV Remote is an alternative for managing supported TV platforms in one app, with additional features available through Premium.

If pairing fails repeatedly, check the TV’s model-specific support instructions. For a TV that has never joined Wi-Fi, use its physical controls or original remote to complete network setup first.
