Use your iPhone as a Roku remote
A compatible Roku TV or player can receive network commands from your iPhone. Navigation and volume are different capabilities: a Roku player is not the same as a Roku TV.
App used in this guide: TV Remote ↗
Before you begin
Turn on the Roku device and use the same home network. On its settings screen, check whether control by mobile apps is allowed; menu wording varies by software.
Step by step
- Open TV Remote and allow Local Network access.
- Select the Roku device from the device list; confirm its name if several appear.
- Test arrows, OK, Back and Home before trying playback controls.
Check the result
If navigation works but volume does not, check whether you have a Roku TV or a streaming player. Roku Stick and Express do not provide TV volume through this app's network commands.
If it does not work
Do not buy a subscription expecting it to add missing hardware capabilities. Use the TV or sound system remote for volume when your player cannot control it.
