How to review duplicate contacts before merging
Cleanup Pro can help find and merge duplicate contacts. Check the names, numbers and email addresses first so two different people are not combined just because they share a name.
App used in this guide: Cleanup Pro ↗
Before you begin
Keep an appropriate backup of important contacts through your normal account or export process. Contact changes may sync to the account that stores them, so another synced device may reflect the same edits.
Step by step
- Open Cleanup Pro's contact tools and allow contact access if you choose.
- Review the detected duplicate groups.
- Compare all available phone numbers, email addresses and labels.
- Merge only records that clearly belong to the same person or organization.
Check the result
Open the resulting contact in the Contacts app and confirm the details you intended to keep are still present. Pay special attention to work and personal numbers with similar labels.
Limits and troubleshooting
Matching names are a clue, not proof of duplication. If a group is uncertain, leave it separate and verify later. Avoid mass merging a whole address book without checking representative records and account behavior first.
