About the HEIC to JPG Converter

HEIC (HEIF) is the default photo format on iPhone and iPad. Files are about half the size of JPG, but they often won’t open on Windows PCs, in upload forms, in some messaging apps or in older photo editors. This tool converts HEIC photos to JPG, which opens everywhere, or to PNG, which keeps full quality and transparency.

The conversion runs entirely in your browser. The first time, the converter engine (about 3 MB) is downloaded once; your photos themselves are never sent anywhere.

How to use

  1. Drop your HEIC photos into the box above or tap it to choose files. You can add many at once.
  2. Choose the output format (JPG or PNG). For JPG you can set the quality; around 92 is practically identical to the original.
  3. When the conversion is done, tap Save for each photo or Save all (ZIP).

JPG or PNG?

  • JPG: the right choice in most cases. Files are small and open everywhere: Windows, email, messaging apps and upload forms.
  • PNG: lossless with no quality loss at all, but 3–5 times larger than JPG. Use it when you need a master copy for further editing.

HEIC compresses very efficiently, so a JPG is normally 1.5–2 times larger than the HEIC file. If you need a smaller file, run the result through the Image Compressor afterwards.

Shoot JPG on your iPhone from the start

On your iPhone, go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible; new photos will then be saved as JPG. Also, if Settings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC is set to Automatic, photos are converted to JPG when you copy them to a computer with a cable. Use this tool for HEIC photos you have already taken.

FAQ

Are my photos sent to a server?

No. The conversion happens only in your browser and your photos are not uploaded anywhere, so you can convert private photos with peace of mind.

Does converting reduce quality?

PNG has no quality loss. JPG at quality 92 is visually indistinguishable from the original. The resolution (width and height in pixels) stays the same.

Are the date and location kept?

Converted files don’t contain EXIF metadata such as GPS location or device details, which makes them safer to share. The photo orientation is applied correctly.

Does it work with Live Photos or burst photos?

The main still image inside the HEIC file is converted. The moving part (video) of a Live Photo is not included.

I get the message “This isn’t a HEIC file”.

The file is already in another format such as JPG or PNG. To change its format, use the Image Converter.
