How to merge scanned documents into one PDF

Scanner 1.0 is awaiting App Store review. This guide previews the submitted version; a public download is not available yet.

Scanner can combine separate documents when pages were captured in different sessions. Merging is useful for an application that needs several supporting documents in one file.

Before you begin

Decide the required order before starting: for example, application first, supporting letter second and receipts last. Open each source document and remove anything you do not intend to send.

Step by step

  1. Choose Merge Documents in Scanner.
  2. Select the documents to include and review the offered order.
  3. Complete the merge and open the resulting document.
  4. Check all pages, rename the combined file and export it as a PDF.

Check the result

Compare the output page count with the total of the selected documents. Look at the boundary between each pair of documents, where repeated cover pages or missing pages are easiest to overlook.

Limits and troubleshooting

Merging does not standardize page sizes or repair unreadable scans. Keep the source documents until you have inspected the exported file, and check any upload size limit before sending the combined document.
