Create a plain-text QR code on iPhone

A text QR code carries a short note directly, without requiring a website to display it. Use it for simple instructions or labels that should remain readable without opening a link.

Before you begin

Prepare concise text and remove anything confidential. Anyone who can photograph and decode the code can read what it contains.

Step by step

  1. Open QR Code Scanner's creation screen and choose Text.
  2. Enter the note, preserving any necessary line breaks, then save.
  3. Share the image and scan the final version to check the decoded text.

Check the result

Compare punctuation, line breaks and non-Latin characters with the original. A compatible reader can decode the stored text without fetching a webpage.

If it does not work

Longer text makes a denser code and can be harder to scan at small sizes. Shorten the note or use a website link for a long document; the saved text does not update automatically.
