How to extract text from a PDF on iPhone
PDF Reader Pro can extract text that is present in a PDF's text layer. A PDF made only of scanned images may not provide text through this tool.
App used in this guide: PDF Reader Pro ↗
Before you begin
Test a word in the document first. If the reader cannot select or search visible text, the file may contain page images rather than selectable characters.
Step by step
- Open Tools and choose Extract Text.
- Select the PDF you want to process.
- Review the resulting text for missing sections or unusual order.
- Copy or save the output through the available actions.
Check the result
Check names, numbers and paragraph boundaries against the PDF. Columns, footnotes and tables can produce a different reading order from what you see on the page.
Limits and troubleshooting
Text extraction does not promise a fully reconstructed Word document or spreadsheet. If the PDF has no usable text layer, use an OCR workflow, then proofread the result; running the same text-extraction action repeatedly will not create missing text.
