How to print a PDF from your iPhone

Start with the printer

Confirm AirPrint support for the exact printer model, turn it on, and connect your iPhone to the same local network. Check paper and ink before sending a job. A manufacturer name such as HP or Canon does not by itself establish compatibility.

Smart Printer requires AirPrint too. Installing it does not turn a USB-only or unsupported printer into an AirPrint printer.

Print without an additional app

Open the PDF in Files or another app that offers printing. Use its share or actions menu, select Print, choose the printer and review the available options. The menu position depends on the app and iOS version.

Review the preview and select the pages you actually need. Printer capabilities determine whether options such as color, paper size and two-sided printing are available.

Use Smart Printer for a document workflow

1. Open Smart Printer and choose Documents on the Print screen.
2. Choose the PDF from the document picker. Download cloud files first if they are not available locally.
3. Review the document preview and start the print flow.
4. Select an AirPrint printer, check copies and page range, then confirm the print job.

You can also use a supported app’s share sheet to send a file to Smart Printer. Its Scanner and Files tabs are useful when you want to scan paper, save a PDF, and print it later.

Avoid wasted paper

For a long document, print one representative page first. Check orientation, margins and whether small text is legible. If layout differs from the source document, use a PDF export from the authoring app and inspect it before printing.
