Scan a QR code from a photo on your iPhone

Try the image you already have

Open the original photo or screenshot at full size. If your iPhone recognizes the QR code in Photos, use the offered action and inspect the destination. If no action appears, use the image import option in a scanner app.

For an occasional link, a built-in action may be sufficient. A dedicated app is useful when you also want saved history, code details, creation tools or export options.

Read an image in QR Code Scanner

1. Save the image to your photo library if it is currently in a message or website.
2. Open QR Code Scanner and use the photo/library button on the scanning screen.
3. Choose the image containing the code and allow the requested photo access needed for selection.
4. Review the decoded details before opening a link or taking another action.
5. Use History to revisit entries saved by the app.

Image selection and permission screens can vary by iOS version. A screenshot should include the complete QR code and its surrounding border.

If the image will not scan

Try the original file instead of a compressed thumbnail. A cropped corner, motion blur, strong reflections or a very small code can prevent recognition. For an image with several codes, use a clear image of the one you need; do not assume that every code will be imported as a batch.

If you can access the original code on another display or on paper, scanning it with the camera is another option. Repeatedly zooming a low-resolution image does not restore missing detail.

Check the result before opening it

A successfully decoded QR code is not proof that its destination is safe. Check the domain and the context in which the code was shared. Avoid entering passwords or payment information merely because a QR code opened a page.
