FAQ

What's the difference between emoji and emoticons?

Emoji (๐Ÿ˜€) are picture characters defined by Unicode, so they work like letters in any app. Emoticons are faces built from punctuation, like :-) or (^_^). Text emoticons are collected in our special characters tool.

Why does the same emoji look different on different phones?

Unicode defines what an emoji means, but Apple, Google, Samsung and Microsoft each draw their own artwork, so ๐Ÿ˜€ looks slightly different on an iPhone and an Android phone.
