About the Text Compare
This diff checker compares an original and a changed text and shows the differences in color: deleted parts in red, added parts in green. In line mode, the exact characters that changed inside a line are highlighted too, so you can spot a single typo or a changed number right away.
Use it to compare contract drafts, edited essays, code, configuration files or two versions of a list. Everything runs in your browser โ nothing is uploaded.
How to use
- Paste the original text into the first box and the changed text into the second.
- Choose whether to compare by Lines, Words or Characters.
- Turn on Ignore whitespace or Ignore case if those differences donโt matter.
- For long documents, tick Only show changes to see just the changed lines with a little context.
Which comparison mode should I use?
| Mode | Best for |
|---|---|
| Lines | Code, lists, configuration files, documents split into lines |
| Words | Sentences and paragraphs, proofreading and edits |
| Characters | Typos, single digits, spacing differences |
When to ignore whitespace and case
Text copied from Word or a PDF often has different numbers of spaces or trailing spaces, so lines can look different even when the content is the same. Ignore whitespace treats runs of spaces as one and ignores spaces at the start and end of lines. Ignore case treats โHelloโ and โhelloโ as equal.
FAQ
Can I compare Word (.docx) or PDF files directly?
File upload isn't supported. Copy the content of each document and paste it into the two boxes.
Does it work with long documents?
Thousands of lines are compared instantly. If two texts differ in more than 4,000 places, the calculation stops and that section is shown as entirely changed.
Is my text saved?
Only in this browser, so you can continue later. It is never sent to a server, and Clear all deletes it.
