About the Image Color Picker

This image color picker is an online eyedropper that tells you the exact code of any color in a picture. Itโ€™s useful for grabbing brand colors from a logo or website screenshot, or for building a design palette from a photo you like. A magnifier lets you pick down to a single pixel, and on phones it floats above your finger so it never hides the spot youโ€™re touching.

Your image is processed only in your browser and is never sent to a server.

How to use

  1. Drop an image into the box above or tap it to choose one. Screenshots can be pasted directly with Ctrl+V.
  2. Tap the spot you want. The magnifier helps you see exactly which pixel youโ€™re on.
  3. Tap Copy next to the HEX, RGB or HSL code and paste it into your design tool or CSS.
  4. Check the imageโ€™s main colors and their shares in the Color palette below. Tap a color to copy it.

Reading color codes

FormatExampleMeaning
HEX#4F46E5Red, green and blue as two hex digits each (web, Figma)
RGBrgb(79, 70, 229)Red, green and blue from 0 to 255 (Photoshop, PowerPoint)
HSLhsl(243, 75%, 59%)Hue, saturation and lightness (handy for tweaking colors in CSS)

How is the palette made?

The image is scaled down and similar colors are grouped with k-means clustering to find up to 8 colors that cover the largest areas. The number under each color is the share of the image that color group covers. The same image always gives the same palette.

Because of compression, pixels in a flat area of a JPG can vary slightly. To get an exact logo color, use the original PNG or pick the middle of the area with the magnifier.

FAQ

The code is slightly different from what I see on screen.

Monitor color settings, dark mode and color profiles embedded in the image can make colors look a little different. The extracted code is the exact pixel value stored in the image file.

How do I get a color from a website?

Take a screenshot (Windows: Win+Shift+S, Mac: Cmd+Shift+4), paste it on this page with Ctrl+V and tap the spot you want.

Where are my recent colors saved?

Your last 12 colors are saved only in this browser, so theyโ€™re still there next time. The image itself is not saved.

What about transparent areas?

The palette ignores transparent pixels. Tapping a transparent spot has no color information and may show black (#000000).
