About the Random Team Generator
This random team generator splits people into groups for class projects, work workshops, sports, game nights or club meetups. Type one name per line (or separate them with commas), choose Number of teams or People per team, and the teams appear right away.
Names are shuffled with your browser's cryptographic random generator, so the input order makes no difference, and team sizes differ by at most one person.
How to use
- Type the names one per line, or paste them from a spreadsheet or chat. Commas work too.
- Choose Number of teams or People per team and set the number.
- Pick a team name style and, if you like, turn on Pick a captain.
- Press Make teams. Not happy? Shuffle again. To share, press Copy results.
How team sizes are balanced
All names are shuffled, then dealt to the teams one at a time like cards. Even when the numbers don't divide evenly, team sizes differ by at most one, and which teams get the extra person is random too.

With People per team, the tool first works out how many teams are needed (total รท size, rounded up) and then spreads people evenly, so you never end up with one tiny leftover team.
Tips for fair teams
- Press Make teams with everyone watching the screen, so nobody doubts the result.
- To balance skill, split your strongest players first, then split the rest and combine the teams.
- Your name list is saved on this device, so you can reuse it next time.
FAQ
What if the same name appears twice?
Every line counts as one person. For people with the same name, add an initial (e.g. "Alex B." and "Alex K.") so the results are easy to read.
How many people can I split?
There's no limit โ hundreds of names split instantly. You just can't have more teams than people.
Are the names sent to a server?
No. Names are stored only in your browser and never uploaded. Clearing the box clears the saved list too.
How do I share the teams?
Press Copy results to copy text like "[Team 1] name, nameโฆ" and paste it into any chat or email.
