About the QR Code Scanner
This online QR code scanner reads QR codes without a phone. Take a screenshot of a QR code on your screen and paste it with Ctrl+V, upload a photo someone sent you, or scan live with your laptop webcam or phone camera.
Results are sorted by type: Wi-Fi codes show the network name and password, contact codes show name, phone and email, and links show the full address and any warning signs before you open them. Everything is decoded inside your browser.
How to use
- Click Choose a QR code image, or paste a screenshot anywhere on the page with Ctrl+V (⌘+V on a Mac).
- To use a camera, click Scan with camera, allow access and fit the QR code inside the square.
- Check the type (link, Wi-Fi, contact…) and content. If the image contains several codes, each one is numbered.
- Use the buttons: open the link after checking it, copy the Wi-Fi password, save a contact (.vcf) or add an event (.ics).
QR code types it understands
| Type | Format inside the code | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Link | https://… | See the full URL and domain, open, copy |
| Wi-Fi | WIFI:S:name;T:WPA;P:pass;; | See network name, password and security, copy the password |
| Contact | BEGIN:VCARD, MECARD: | See name, phone and email, save as .vcf |
| Phone, SMS, email | tel:, smsto:, mailto: | Call, text or write an email |
| Location, event | geo:, BEGIN:VEVENT | Open in maps, add to calendar |
| Text | Anything else | Copy |
Besides regular QR codes it also reads Micro QR and rectangular rMQR codes. For product barcodes (EAN, UPC…) use the Barcode Scanner.
How to avoid QR code phishing (quishing)
Because you can’t read a QR code with your eyes, scammers use them to send people to fake sites – on parking meters, fake parcel notices or letters pretending to be from a bank or government office.
- Before opening a link, make sure the domain is exactly the official one. Fake domains often differ by a single letter.
- This tool flags shortened links, IP addresses, plain http and addresses containing “@”.
- If a page reached by QR code asks for card details, passwords or an app install, stop and contact the company through its official app or phone number.
- On public QR codes, check that no sticker has been placed over the original.
If a code won’t scan
- If the QR code is small in the picture, crop the image around it.
- Photograph it straight on, without glare or blur. All three corner squares must be visible.
- A screenshot is far more reliable than a phone photo of a monitor.
- Inverted codes (white on black) and rotated codes are corrected automatically.
FAQ
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Image decoding and camera scanning run entirely in your browser; the picture and the QR content are never sent anywhere.
How do I scan a QR code that’s on my computer screen?
Take a screenshot of it (Windows: Win+Shift+S, Mac: ⌘+Ctrl+Shift+4 to copy to the clipboard), then press Ctrl+V or ⌘+V on this page.
I blocked the camera – how do I turn it back on?
Click the lock (site settings) icon left of the address bar, set Camera to Allow and reload the page. On iPhone, go to Settings › Safari › Camera.
What if a picture contains several QR codes?
All codes found in the image are read, numbered on the preview and listed in the same order.
Can I see the password of a Wi-Fi QR code?
Yes. Wi-Fi QR codes store the password as plain text, so it is shown together with the network name and security type and can be copied with one tap.
