About the Online Notepad
This online notepad works right in your browser, with no app to install and no account to create. Everything you write is saved automatically in this browser on this device, so your notes are still there after you close the tab or restart your computer.
You can keep several notes in a list; the first line of each note becomes its title. Character, word and line counts update live, and any note can be downloaded as a plain .txt file. Your notes are never sent to a server.
How to use
- Start typing in the box. The first line becomes the note title.
- Tap + New note to start another note, and tap a note in the list to switch between them.
- Use Aโ / A+ to change the text size.
- Tap Save .txt to download the note, or Copy all to paste it somewhere else.
Where are my notes stored?
Notes are kept in your browserโs local storage (localStorage), so you can only see them again on the same device in the same browser. They can disappear in these cases, so download anything important as a .txt file:
- You clear your browsing history or site data (cookies).
- You write in a private/incognito window and then close it.
- You open the page on another device or in a different browser.
Handy for
- Jotting things down quickly during a meeting or phone call
- Drafting something on a shared or library computer (tap Delete when you are done)
- Writing a post, bio or cover letter while keeping an eye on the character count
FAQ
Can anyone else read my notes?
Your notes are never uploaded, so nobody can see them over the internet. Anyone using the same device and browser can open this page and see them, though, so delete your notes on shared computers.
Can I see the same notes on my phone and computer?
No. Notes are stored separately on each device. To move a note, save it as a .txt file or copy it and send it to yourself.
Is there a size limit?
It depends on the browser, but usually all notes together can hold around 5 million characters โ far more than everyday notes need.
Can I recover a deleted note?
No, deleted notes cannot be restored. To prevent accidents, you have to tap Delete twice.
