About the WhatsApp QR Code Generator

A WhatsApp QR code lets customers, guests or friends start a chat with you without saving your number first. It uses WhatsApp’s official click-to-chat link, https://wa.me/ followed by your number, which opens the chat directly in WhatsApp on any phone. You can also add a ready-made message such as “I’d like to book a table”, so people only have to tap Send.

The URL field is already filled with https://wa.me/; just add your number. The code is created right in your browser, nothing you type is uploaded, and as a static QR code it keeps working forever.

How to use

  1. Write your number in full international format with only digits: country code first, no +, no 00, no spaces, dashes or brackets, and drop the leading 0 of a national number. Example: US (555) 123-4567 → 15551234567, UK 07700 900123 → 447700900123.
  2. Add it after https://wa.me/ in the Website URL field, e.g. https://wa.me/447700900123. The QR code updates instantly.
  3. Optional: add a pre-filled message with ?text= and URL-encode it (spaces become %20): https://wa.me/447700900123?text=Hi%20I%20would%20like%20to%20book%20a%20table.
  4. Open Design (colors, size, logo) to change the QR color or put your logo in the center, then click Download PNG or Download SVG (use SVG or 2048px for print).
  5. Scan the code with a second phone before printing to check that the right chat opens.

The wa.me link format explained

LinkWhat happens when scanned
https://wa.me/15551234567Opens a chat with that number
https://wa.me/15551234567?text=HelloOpens the chat with “Hello” already typed
https://wa.me/?text=Check%20this%20outLets the person pick any contact to send the message to

The person scanning still has to tap Send, so nothing is sent automatically. Characters such as spaces, &, ? and # in the message must be URL-encoded, otherwise the message gets cut off. Keep the message short: a long text makes the QR code denser and harder to scan.

WhatsApp’s own QR codes vs. this generator

WhatsApp can show a personal QR code in its settings, and the WhatsApp Business app has its own short link and QR code under Business tools. Those are fine for showing on your screen. This generator is handy when you want a code for print: your own colors and logo, an SVG file that stays sharp on posters, menus and shop windows, and a pre-filled message of your choice. Because it only contains a wa.me link, it never expires and does not depend on any third-party redirect.

  • Shops and restaurants: orders, reservations and customer service at the counter or on takeaway bags.
  • Real estate and services: “Message me about this listing” on signs and flyers.
  • Events: a help-desk chat for attendees on badges and posters.

FAQ

Does the WhatsApp QR code expire?

No. It is a static QR code that contains the wa.me link itself, so it works as long as your number is on WhatsApp, even if this website goes offline.

Why does WhatsApp say “The phone number shared via URL is invalid”?

Usually the number is not in international format. Use only digits, start with the country code, and remove +, 00, spaces, brackets and the leading 0 of the national number.

Can I use it with a WhatsApp Business account?

Yes. The wa.me link works for both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business numbers, including landlines registered with WhatsApp Business.

Will my phone number be visible?

Yes. Anyone who scans the code can see the number in the chat, so use a business number if you don’t want to share your personal one on public posters.

Is my number stored on your server?

No. The QR code is drawn in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere. WhatsApp is a trademark of WhatsApp LLC; this tool is not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta.
