About the What Is My IP

An IP address identifies your connection on the internet. The address shown here is your public IP โ€” the one your home or office router uses to reach the internet, and the one every website and server sees. You'll need it to whitelist your connection for remote access, set up a server firewall or answer a support request.

The browser, OS and screen details below are handy for bug reports: copy them and paste them in so support can reproduce the problem.

How to use

  1. Open the page. Your public IP address appears at the top automatically.
  2. Press Copy IP to copy just the address, or Copy all info to include the browser and device details.
  3. After switching Wi-Fi networks or turning on a VPN, press Check again to see the new address.

Public vs. private IP

TypeExampleWhat it is
Public IP203.0.113.7Visible on the internet. Assigned to your router or modem by your ISP
Private IP192.168.1.10Used only inside your home network. Different for every device

A laptop and a phone on the same Wi-Fi have different private IPs but share one public IP. To find your private IP, run ipconfig in Command Prompt on Windows, or open System Settings โ†’ Network on a Mac.

Why your IP address changes

  • Most home connections have a dynamic IP that can change when you restart the router or after a while.
  • Mobile data (4G/5G) usually gets a new address on each connection, and many users may share one IP (CGNAT).
  • With a VPN or iCloud Private Relay turned on, you see the service's IP instead of your real one.

FAQ

Can someone find my location or identity from my IP?

An IP alone only reveals your internet provider and a rough area, usually the city or region. It doesn't show your name or street address; identifying a subscriber requires a legal request to the provider.

What's the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?

IPv4 looks like 203.0.113.7 (four numbers separated by dots); IPv6 looks like 2001:db8::1 (longer, separated by colons). IPv6 was created because IPv4 addresses ran out. This tool shows whichever one your connection used.

My IP doesn't show up.

An ad blocker or a work or school firewall may block the IP lookup. Pause the blocker or try another network, then press Check again.

Is my information stored?

No. This site doesn't store your IP or device details. The public IP comes from the ipify API; everything else is read and shown in your browser only.
