About the Watermark PDF & Page Numbers
This tool adds a text watermark (Confidential, Copy, Draftโฆ) or an image watermark (company logo, stamp) to a PDF, and can put page numbers at the top or bottom of each page. Changes to font size, color, opacity, angle and position show up in the preview immediately.
The watermark is drawn on top of the page; the original content is not turned into an image, so text stays selectable and searchable. Watermarks in Chinese, Japanese or Korean embed a font containing only the characters you used, so they look the same on every device.
How to use
- Tap the box above and choose a PDF. A preview of the first page appears.
- Choose a Text or Image watermark and set its content, size, opacity, angle and position. Turn on Tile across the page to repeat it over the whole page.
- To watermark only some pages, type them like 1-3, 5. Leave the field empty for all pages.
- For page numbers, tick Add page numbers, pick position, format and start number, then press Save PDF.

- Skip the first page: the cover gets no number and numbering starts on page 2 with your start number. The total (N) then excludes the cover.
- Start at: continue the numbering of a previous document, e.g. start at 21.
- Margin: distance from the edge of the paper. For printing, use at least 10 mm (about 0.4 in).
Tips for a good-looking watermark
- Opacity 20โ30% and an angle of 45ยฐ keep the watermark visible without hiding the text.
- To discourage copying, turn on Tile across the page โ the mark remains even if part of the page is cropped.
- For logos, a PNG with a transparent background looks cleanest.
A watermark is a normal drawing element that PDF editors can remove. To protect the content itself, also use Protect PDF.
FAQ
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The preview and the watermarking both run in your browser, and the file is never sent anywhere.
Why does a Chinese, Japanese or Korean watermark take longer?
Those characters need an embedded font, so a font file (about 3โ4 MB) is downloaded the first time. Latin text doesnโt need it. Only the characters you actually use are stored in the PDF, so the file barely grows.
Does it work with landscape or rotated pages?
Yes. Positions are calculated from how each page is actually displayed, so the watermark and page numbers sit upright on landscape and rotated pages too.
Can I remove the watermark later?
The tool saves a new file and never changes your original, so simply keep the original. Removing a watermark from the stamped file requires a PDF editor.
