About the Online Voice Recorder
This free online voice recorder works in your browser on computers and phones, with no app to install. Use it to record voice memos, lectures, meetings, podcasts, interview practice, singing or an instrument. A live waveform and level meter show that your mic is picking up sound.
Each recording is added to a list so you can compare takes, rename them and download them as the original file (WebM or M4A) or WAV. Audio is processed only on your device and is never uploaded.
How to use
- Tap the red record button and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- Speak and watch the waveform move. Use Pause and Resume to take a break within the same recording.
- Tap the button again or Finish. The recording appears in the list and you can play it immediately.
- Rename it if you like, then tap Save for the original file or Save WAV.
Which format should I download?
| Format | Good for | Size per minute (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| WebM (Opus) | Default in Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Small, good quality | about 1 MB |
| M4A (AAC) | Default in Safari and on iPhone. Plays in iTunes/Music and most phones | about 1 MB |
| WAV | Uncompressed. Best for editing in Audacity, GarageBand or a DAW | about 5โ10 MB |
If an app wonโt open a WebM file, download the WAV version.
Tips for a clean recording
- Keep the microphone 4โ8 inches (10โ20 cm) from your mouth and slightly off to the side to avoid popping โpโ and โbโ sounds.
- Avoid rooms with fans, air conditioning or a humming fridge.
- If the level meter hits the end, move back a little to avoid distortion.
- For music, turn on Original sound so noise suppression doesnโt cut your instrument.
FAQ
Are my recordings uploaded?
No. Recording and conversion happen in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. That also means recordings disappear when you close the page, so download the ones you need.
Is there a time limit?
No. An hour of WebM audio is only about 60 MB, which most devices handle easily. On phones, keep the screen on, because recording may stop when the screen locks.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari and Chrome on iOS 14.3 or later. Recordings are saved as M4A and can be found in the Files app under Downloads.
Can I save as MP3?
Browsers canโt encode MP3 directly. Most players and editors support M4A and WAV. If you really need MP3, save as WAV and convert it.
