About the Online Screen Recorder
This free online screen recorder lets you capture your screen without installing any software. It works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook. Use it for tutorials, bug reports, presentations, online classes and meetings. There’s no watermark and no time limit.
Recording uses your browser’s built-in screen sharing (getDisplayMedia) and MediaRecorder, so your video never leaves your computer. When you stop, you can watch it right away and download the file.
How to use
- Choose whether to include screen audio and your microphone, and set a countdown if you like.
- Click Start recording and pick what to share: entire screen, a window or a tab. To capture sound from a tab (e.g. YouTube), select the tab and turn on “Share tab audio”.
- While recording, use Pause and Resume to skip parts you don’t need.
- Click Stop recording (or the browser’s “Stop sharing” button). Preview the video and click Download video.
What each browser supports
| Browser | Screen | Screen audio | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chrome / Edge (desktop) | Yes | Tab audio; full system audio on Windows and ChromeOS | MP4 / WebM |
| Firefox (desktop) | Yes | No | WebM |
| Safari (Mac) | Yes | No | MP4 |
| iPhone / iPad | Not available in browsers → use Screen Recording in Control Center | ||
| Android | Not available in browsers → use Screen recorder in Quick Settings | ||
On a Mac, the first time you record you need to allow your browser under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording.
Adding your webcam
Click Show webcam bubble to open your camera in a small picture-in-picture window that floats above every app. Move it to a corner and record your entire screen: your face is recorded together with the screen, just like in a tutorial video. If you record only a window or tab, the floating webcam isn’t included.
FAQ
Is there a time limit?
No. The video is kept in your browser’s memory while recording, so for recordings longer than an hour use a computer with plenty of free memory, or split them into parts.
Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?
No. Recording and saving happen entirely on your device. Download the video before closing the page, because it isn’t stored anywhere else.
Why is there no sound in my recording?
In Chrome and Edge, sound is captured when you share a tab with “Share tab audio” turned on, or the entire screen with “Share system audio” on Windows. macOS browsers can’t capture system sound, so turn on the microphone instead.
Can I record my phone screen with this?
Mobile browsers don’t support screen capture. On iPhone use Screen Recording in Control Center, and on Android use the screen recorder in Quick Settings.
How do I open a WebM file?
WebM plays in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and VLC, and YouTube accepts it. If your browser offers MP4, choose MP4 for the widest compatibility.
