About the Cooking Measurement Converter

Recipes measure by volume or by weight, and a cup of flour weighs far less than a cup of honey. This cooking converter turns cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, milliliters and fluid ounces into grams and ounces (and back) for the ingredient you choose. Switch between the US cup (240 ml), the metric cup (250 ml) used in the UK, Australia and Canada, and the Japanese cup (200 ml).

How to use

  2. Enter the amount and unit, then pick the ingredient.

FAQ

How many grams is 1 cup of flour?

About 120โ€“130 g of all-purpose flour when spooned into a 240 ml cup and leveled. Scooping straight from the bag packs it and can add 20% more.

How many grams is a stick of butter?

One US stick of butter is ยฝ cup, 8 tablespoons or about 113 g (4 oz).

Why do grams differ between ingredients?

Cups measure volume. Dense ingredients like honey weigh more per cup than light ones like flour or cocoa, so the gram value depends on the ingredient.

Is a cup 240 ml or 250 ml?

US recipes use 240 ml (nutrition-label cup; the customary cup is 236.6 ml). UK, Australian and Canadian recipes usually use a 250 ml metric cup, and Japan uses 200 ml.
